The death penalty is an important issue in the United States today. It concerns many people who are accused of a serious crime and with out it, it seems that they are getting away with it.The death penalty should be legalized for these certain reasons... the first reason is if you go out and kill someone and then you are found guilty and have to serve a life sentance in prison then it is like you are getting away with murder because in prison the inmates get to sit and watch cable TV and play ping pong. We think that when you are charged with murder and all the evidence points out that you did it you should be put to death, even if it by lethal injection,(the least painful way from what we have researched). However, we feel that in Minnesota, where we live and are concerned about this issue, if we can get representatives to be on our side of this, we would have a method of execution more painful and effective. The reason why is because if the person who is thinking about killing someone knows how they are going to end up when they are convicted, maybe they will actually think about what they are doing before they do it. Also if you murder someone then most likely it is painful death for that person, then you should have to die the same way. From the research that we have found it saves the prison money because the annual cost is $40,000 to $50,000 a year for each inmate. The common prisoner is in prison for 30 to 40 years and the cost of putting that person to death would be cheaper in the long run. From the research we found that the total cost for one person to be executed would be $16,500. That is about half the cost for keeping that person in prison for one year. We are trying to influence others to support the death penalty because if more people would write in to their congressmen then maybe we could have the death penalty legalized. Facts about the death penalty: *From 1967-1996 there was approximately 560,000 murders and only 358 executions. *The average time for people on death row is 11 years.*Of the roughly 52,000 state prison inmates serving time for murder in 1984, an estimated 810 had previously been convicted of murder and had killed 812 lifes.(Executing those inmates would have saved those 821 lives. *99.9% of all convicted capital murders and their attorneys argue for life in prison not death. (which means they are affraid of the death sentance and if they know that they will get the death penalty they might not have murdered in the first place.) *The highest murder rate in Houston, Texas occured in 1981,with 701 murders. Texas resumed executions in 1982. Since that time Houston has executed more murders than any other city or state and has seen the greatest reduction in murder, 701 in 1981 down to 261 in 1996-a 63% reduction. (Which means that if more states legalized the death penalty the murder rate would go down.) So on our website you have read the reasons why you should support the death penalty and some facts about it to make you sure of your decision.THANK YOU FOR VISITING OUR WEBSITE!
